Good Deed Sunday: 1/26/14 (Late Post)

Ok so during a previous week, I had a good deed of sending friends a Thank You note for being a good friend and it was awesome because this last week, everyone at separate times were sending me pictures of the little “love notes” I sent in the card and telling me how it was a pleasant surprise or how they needed it at that moment. So it felt really good to make some of my friends feel special.

“Amazing friends make my world go round. Thank You [Ashley]  for being you”

Let’s catch up for this last week and you can also see what the mystery deed was (I know it’s been killing you to know).

1/19/14: TELL YOUR PARENTS YOU LOVE THEM and appreciate them:
As easy as this one is, or seems, it was a little strange for me to just do it out of the blue over the phone. I mean I’ve gotten into the habit of saying I say I Love You frequently to my parents but for some reason to, what would seem like random, to tell them I appreciate them felt more….(gasp) vulnerable. I haven’t always been in a place of being comfortable sharing feelings with my parents while I was growing up so I’m learning it still has somewhat of a hold on me now. Also I think with this day and age and having texting and messaging and that sort of stuff, I think society has a harder time sharing their feelings face to face or voice to voice. I didn’t want to pass on this good deed so I still completed it, and as much as I wanted to do it over the phone (because my parents don’t live close enough for me to see them), I was feeling too vulnerable in the moment, so I did it through a text message. Both parents replied and I could tell were grateful to hear that from me.

1/20/14: MYSTERY DEED aka SEND A FRIEND A BELOVED BOOK from your shelf:
The reason I picked this as a mystery deed is because this is the type of deed I like to be a surprise. I didn’t want any friends to EXPECT anything and like the element of surprising someone and them receiving something unexpected. This particular deed, one of my friends was mentioning a book she thought she should read because it kept appearing in her path and it was a book I have. I had not read it yet and knowing that I wasn’t going to have time any time soon, I sent the book for her to read. She doesn’t check her mail frequently so I don’t think she’s seen it yet, but I’m sure after this post she’ll go home and check tonight 🙂

1/21/14: HUG YOUR CHILD for no reason at all:
This one is super easy because I hug my child all the time. He’s 5 so he’s constantly getting smothered in kisses and hugs from me. I thought this might be an interesting one for parents with older children because it might be something they don’t do as often, making it a pleasant surprise for their child. If you are a parent of an older child and you completed this deed, or want to complete it, share your experience in the comments below.

1/22/14: bake your favorite kind of cookies and SHARE:
This is a deed I did not get a chance to do this week. I had no time the previous night to bake cookies so my plan was to bake them on this night and share them with my co-workers the following day and when I was going to make them, I didn’t have any eggs. I literally haven’t even gone to the grocery store since. 😦 I’m going tonight though, so I’ll make sure I pick up some eggs.

1/23/14: MEDITATE for ten minutes:
I have to admit, this one I did not remember to do. I was going to do it at lunch but then had errands to run so decided to do it at bedtime and forgot. 😦

1/24/14: BUY A COFFEE for the person behind you in line:
This one was fun because I don’t drink coffee and I rarely end up in a coffee shop. So on this day I deliberately went to Starbucks just to carry out this deed. I did not order a coffee for myself, I instead bought some food so I could quickly slip out before the person behind me knew they were getting their coffee paid for. The funny thing is, there was a really long line when I went in but no one was coming in after me. I was laughing in my head thinking “of course this happens”. When I was paying for my food, two people walked in. I gave the cashier a $20 and as she was going to give me my $15 change I told her to keep $10 and pay for the next one or two coffees behind me. As I was walking out I heard her say, “Oh she’s paying for your drink”. I didn’t turn around I just kept walking. It was kind of awesome to feel like some sort of mysterious deed lady haha.

1/25/14: TELL A STRANGER HIS/HER CHILD IS BEAUTIFUL:
I had a lot of opportunity for this one this day because not only did I go to a child’s birthday party, but my son also had a basketball game. I told one of the mom’s at the birthday party that her daughter was beautiful. I’m sure she’s heard it before because her daughter was just so adorable, but as a parent I know it’s still feels nice when people say that.

1/26/14: BE HAPPY FOR SOMEONE and tell her.
I accidentally picked 8 deeds last week instead of 7 but being that I am late on this post it’s good that I had previously picked this for yesterday and it was already shared with everyone. I went to my fiance’s cousin’s girlfriends (you got that?) baby shower yesterday. It was so nice and beautiful. We are both pregnant and only 4 weeks apart from each other. It’s cool because the babies are cousins and will be close in age. By the end of the shower, I couldn’t remember if I had specifically told her I was happy for her so just in case, I wrote it again on her Facebook to let her know how excited and happy I am for both and I can’t wait to meet the little one.

So as January is coming to an end, I have officially completed 20 of 26 deeds that I have picked. Sometimes things happen or I won’t get the opportunity to do it on the specific day I was meaning to. For that, I want to at least try to have “make up” days before the end of that month. So this week I will be doubling up with new deeds as well as some that I have missed from the previous weeks.

The new deeds this week are:

1/27/14: SAY GOOD MORNING TO YOUR CO-WORKERS

1/28/14: ***MYSTERY DEED***

1/29/14: DO A LITTLE DANCE AND BE SILLY

1/30/14: LEAVE SOME HOMEMADE COOKIES AT YOUR NEIGHBORS DOOR

1/31/14: GIVE YOURSELF  A PEP TALK

2/1/14: LET ANOTHER CAR TAKE THAT PARKING SPOT, smile and wave

“Make Up Deeds”:
* Walk around your block and PICK UP TRASH”
*BE MINDFUL of saying “Please”, “Thank You”, and “You’re Welcome” (I halfway completed but wasn’t very mindful and could do better)
*WRITE A POSTCARD TO A LONG LOST FRIEND
*BE QUICK TO APOLOGIZE
*bake your favorite cookies and SHARE
*MEDITATE FOR TEN MINUTES

Can’t wait to see how this week goes and if you’ve been following along or would like to I would love to hear from you in the comments section below

Good Deed Sunday: 1/19/14

Another week down of Good Deed’s accomplished. Yay! Let’s see how this last week went

1/12/14 BE MINDFUL of saying “Please” and “Thank You” and “You’re Welcome” – all day long
I kind of butchered this one because I wasn’t particularly mindful about it for the day. I know I say Thank You a lot, I try to make sure of it to show my appreciation for others effort and work, so I’m not doubting I didn’t say that throughout the day but I’m not so sure I was very mindful with the “Please” and “You’re Welcome”. I have a habit of saying “No Problem” when people say Thank You to me so I’m going to continue to work on the “You’re Welcome”. And also saying Please more often.

1/13/14: start a list of books you’d like to READ FOR FUN:
My for fun books are very similar to books I now have to read for school. Some sort of Self-Growth type of book is what I usually lean towards. I love expanding my knowledge and interest in the area. I rarely read many other types of books when I do read like fiction and such so if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear. It’s nice to read other types of books too. I have a list of books I need to finish reading as well as one’s I want to start. With school, I have so much reading, we read about 4 or so books at a time, so I’m not sure when I’ll get to the for fun list but I’m glad I now have one.

Books I want to finish reading:
*The Liar in Your Life – The Way to Truthful Relationships by:Robert Feldman
*Add More ING to Your Life by: Gabrielle Bernstein
*The Power of Intention by: Wayne Dyer
*Wishes Fulfilled – Mastering the Art of Manifesting by: Wayne Dyer (one I had for class that I didn’t finish)
*Love Lust and Faking It by: Jenny McCarthy

Books I want to start reading:
* A Course in Miracles by: Foundation for Inner Peace
* The Untethered Soul – The Journey Beyond Yourself by: Michael Singer
* Daring Greatly – How The Courage to Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead  by: Brene Brown (only read the first couple pages)
* The Four Agreements – A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by: Don Miguel Ruiz
* Daily Love – Lessons Learned on a Journey from Crisis to Grace by: Mastin Kipp (released Sept 2014)

1/14/14: EAT YOUR NEXT MEAL IN SILENCE (and away from a computer):
On this day I didn’t have too long of a lunch break but I ate my lunch in my car in silence. I’ll admit I had to fight the urge to pick up and check my cell phone. It’s interesting noticing that urge when you are specifically trying not to do so

1/15/14: STRIKE UP A CONVERSATION with a person at the cash register:
I completed this goal with the person at Trader Joes while I was doing my grocery shopping. I’ve always thought it could be somewhat awkward when you’re just standing there waiting and no one is really talking so it was nice to have a conversation.

1/16/14: BE QUICK TO APOLOGIZE:
Super Fail at this one. Again, was not too mindful of the deed this day until the day was over. Even got into a few small arguments this day that probably could have settled faster had I been mindful of this Good Deed for the day. I tell ya, that need to “BE RIGHT” is a kicker. It’s got a strong hold on me. I will need practice this deed more often.

wpid-20140117_154458.jpg1/17/14: SEND A FRIEND A THANK YOU NOTE for being a good friend:
So far this has been one of my favorites. I’ve stood in the stationary section at Target so many times wanting to get cute Thank You cards so this was an awesome reason to be able to do that. I love the cards I got and instead of sending a card to ONE friend, I sent cards to 10 friends. I also found these cute little “LOVE NOTES” that i included in each card. Kind of like a fortune cookie, you have to tear open each note to reveal a cute saying inside about love. Part of me wanted to open each note and read it but I left that to my friends.

1/18/14: WRITE A POSTCARD TO A LONG LOST FRIEND:
This one was a little difficult yesterday because I could not find a postcard. BUT I did get a long lost friends address and will continue looking for a postcard today to send. If I can’t find a postcard, I’ll try to at least send a small card or note.

now on to the deeds for this week:

1/19/14: TELL YOUR PARENTS YOU LOVE THEM and appreciate them

1/20/14: ***MYSTERY DEED***

1/21/14: HUG YOUR CHILD FOR NO REASON AT ALL

1/22/14: bake your favorite kind of cookies and SHARE.

1/23/14: MEDITATE FOR TEN MINUTES

1/24/14: BUY A COFFEE for the person behind you in line

1/25/14: TELL A STRANGER HIS/HER CHILD IS BEAUTIFUL

1/26/14: BE HAPPY FOR SOMEBODY and tell her

***I’ve realized that some of the deeds I would like to complete without giving away what it’s going to be. Some deeds are more fun for both parties if no one expects it coming. So in the event there is a deed like this, you will see MYSTERY DEED, and I will let you know the deed during the following Sunday***

If you have followed along, I would love to know how the deeds have gone for you in the comments below. Or If you would like to follow along, keep me updated.
