Good Deed Sunday 2/9/14

Here we go, another week ending while another week begins…

Last weeks Deeds:

2/3/14: GIVE CREDIT WHENEVER YOU CAN:
On this day a new girl started at my job and I am in charge of training her as she is going to be taking over my position when I go on maternity leave. This was a great day for this deed because there were many opportunities to give credit. I’m sure it made her feel good about what she was learning

2/4/14: START A BIRTHDAY CALENDAR to help you remember to send cards:
This day was one of my good friends Birthday’s and a great reminder to mark off my other friends and family members birthdays on the calendar on my phone. I set reminders to remind me 3 days a head of time so I can get cards to send in the mail so they can reach the people on time. I’ve wanted to do this for a while, and I’ve definitely been more mindful over the last year or two, but I’m glad i took the time to set them all up in my calendar with the reminders. I think it’s fun to get little surprises and cards in the mail to balance out the bills we dislike getting.

2/5/14: SMILE WHEN YOU TALK ON THE PHONE, it makes your voice friendly:
I forgot to do this one this day. It would be a good one to practice at work too since I answer the phone a lot. I get so caught up in the hustle of the day that I can sometimes sounds very rushed when answering the phone. I’m sure it would be very helpful and make a difference as well.

2/6/14: bless your interruptions as an opportunity to TAKE A DEEP BREATHE AND SMILE:
This day was pretty interesting. Usually before the day begins, I re-read what the deed of the day is, I post it on my Facebook, and then that also helps remind me so I can make sure I accomplish it for that day. Well on this day, I forgot to look to see what the deed was. Well the Universe thought it would be a fun day to play with me, so there were definitely some interruptions in the day that were a bit unusual. The first one I noticed was when I tried to print some things from the printer, the printer froze. I was in a very bug hurry to get some stuff printed and done for my boss as she was waiting, and OF COURSE the printer was taking FOREVER to print out what I needed. Because I had not known of my deed this day, I had become very frustrated and irritated with the printer. (poor printer). I ended up printing it on a different printer, which I had not previously thought about because the frustration and annoyance had blocked ways for other ideas to enter, and was on my merry way. Well THEN later, when it was time to make sure all the mail was stamped and ready to take down to the mailbox before the mail carrier came, the stamp machine got stuck. I was literally thinking “this is unbelievable, what is going on today?”. I remember this particular deed but wasn’t sure what day it was for, so I took a minute, pulled up the blog and YUP there it was….this was the deed I was to be practicing. SO i took a deep breath and definitely smiled because I just felt it was no coincidence that these things were happening. This is where Serenity came into play. There are always two ways to look at obstacles. As blessings or issues, this deed gave me the chance to see the blessings. The printer decided to act up some the rest of the day and I just took it as an opportunity to take a deep breath and smile.

2/7/14: MYSTERY DEED aka MYSTERY DEED:
SO what had happened was…. wait for it…. i uh, kinda forgot what deed I picked for the day! haha. Lets blame it on the pregnancy brain k? haha I know I picked something special because it was my dad’s birthday, but for the life of me, I could not remember. So, sorry dad! I was out of the house all day and night and didn’t have my journal so I couldn’t even try to refresh my memory. I think from now on, I’ll mark which deeds are mystery deeds so I can remember.

2/8/14: LEAVE A BIG TIP:
Yesterday I was destined to go out to eat specifically so I could carry out this deed but I didn’t exactly make it out the house except to go to Target. So, in the sense that I wanted, I wasn’t able to accomplish this deed BUT a dog groomer did come to my house earlier in the day to give the dogs a bath and I did leave him a slightly bigger tip then was recommended, but not big enough so I will not count that one. If I were thinking of my deed this moment, I would have made an effort to give him a bigger one, but I was not being very mindful in the moment. DARN!!!

And on to this weeks deeds!!!

2/9/14: BUY A NICE WATER BOTTLE so you’ll be less inclined to buy plastic bottles

2/10/14: PLAY FREEZE DANCE

2/11/14: **MYSTERY DEED**

2/12/14: scroll through your phone and CALL THE PERSON YOU’VE KNOWN THE LONGEST.

2/13/14: BAKE WITH YOUR KIDS

2/14/14: BUY A BUNCH OF FLOWERS on your way to work. Give each one to a colleague you appreciate

2/15/14: Clean out your sweater drawer and TAKE EXTRAS TO A CHARITY

have fun this week and let me know how it goes!!!

Good Deed Sunday 2/2/14 (Late Post)

So I have another late post for you. I had school all weekend so I really had no time that I could be on the computer unless it was cutting into my sleep. School also made it a bit harder this week in completing some of my good deeds because I was working on homework during the week which seemed to take more precedence.

The interesting part as I was preparing to write this blog and the deeds from last week, a piece of me really wanted to lie to you. I wanted it to seem like I completed all the deeds, completed the makeup deeds, and ended the month 31/31. It’s funny to notice that ego part that wants everything to seem “perfect, to not feel like I failed, to not feel judged. Then I come to the conclusion that the only person judging me is ME! I am judging myself in that moment. It’s like that quote “What others think of you is none of your business”…. I can not feel judged unless I am also judging myself. Especially when I DON’T know what others will or are thinking.

I know my intentions and my circumstances so there is no reason for me to feel ashamed. By lying, I would only be harming my self esteem by buying into the judgements that I placed on myself. So as I learned in class, one of the most powerful tools to healing is compassionate self forgiveness. Forgiving yourself for the judgements you place on yourself and others. So “I forgive myself for judging myself as failing…I forgive myself for buying into the belief that this process has to be perfect”.

So let’s get on to the deeds last week:

1/27/14: SAY GOOD MORNING TO YOUR CO-WORKERS:
This one was easy, because I do it everyday. I did make more effort to just say Good Morning to everyone else though too

wpid-IMG_2278.jpg1/28/14: MYSTERY DEED aka PUT A LOVE NOTE IN A LOVED ONES LUNCH:
So the loved one I chose never brings lunch to work so of course I made him a lunch this day and left him a cute little note with it. I left it on the counter as a surprise. Our little one tried t o ruin the surprise and tell  daddy to go look in the kitchen but daddy just thought it was mommy’s lunch. So I had to call him after I left and let him know the I made it for him.

BONUS:
Today I also completed the past deed of doing a TEn MINUTE MEDITATION. I completed the meditation in my counseling session.

1/29/14: DO A LITTLE DANCE AND BE SILLY:
I tend to complete this one a lot. Usually me and my son make up little dances and try to make daddy laugh. This time, my son was already sleep, so i just did a silly dance for the big boy. It included moonwalking so I bet you can just imagine.

1/30/14: LEAVE SOME HOMEMADE COOKIES AT YOUR NEIGHBORS DOOR:
So I picked this deed thinking that It would be easy to complete along with the other deed of making cookies and sharing. I have realized though that’s its not so easy for me to bake during the week so I may have to save these deeds for a weekend.

1/31/14: GIVE YOURSELF A PEP TALK:
This one was a good one for today because it was my first day back at school this month. I was also behind on doing homework and stressing about that, along with working and trying to get a lot of stuff done for a new person that I will be training. So although simple, my person pep talk was just telling myself to do the best I can, what gets done will get done, and let it go into the universe. PS: I got my homework back and got 200/200. YAY!

BONUS: I also completed the deed of BE MINDFUL of my please, thank yous, and you’re welcomes.

2/1/14: LET ANOTHER CAR TAKE THAT PARKING SPOT and smile and wave:
I picked this one for this day because I thought it would be easy since I have school and most people arrive at the same time. But when I arrived on this day there was no one there at the same exact time as me so really I had no one to give a spot to. The intentions were there but the opportunity was not. It will stay in my mind though.

and yesterday Sunday, If I’m sticking to the truth, I didn’t even pick a good deed. So there was nothing this day for Good Deeds to complete. Full day of school and forgot to look in the journal that morning.

SO FAR: this week with the bonus deeds, I completed 6 deeds still which is awesome bringing my count to 26 out of 33 deeds so far. AWESOME

THIS WEEKS DEEDS:

2/3/14: GIVE CREDIT WHEREVER YOU CAN

2/4/14: START A BIRTHDAY CALENDAR to help you remember to send cards

2/5/14: SMILE WHEN YOU TALK ON THE PHONE, it makes your voice friendly

2/6/14: bless your interruptions as an opportunity to TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND SMILE

2/7/14: MYSTERY DEED

2/8/14: LEAVE A BIG TIP

Good Deed Sunday: 1/26/14 (Late Post)

Ok so during a previous week, I had a good deed of sending friends a Thank You note for being a good friend and it was awesome because this last week, everyone at separate times were sending me pictures of the little “love notes” I sent in the card and telling me how it was a pleasant surprise or how they needed it at that moment. So it felt really good to make some of my friends feel special.

wpid-IMG_4701.jpg

“Thank You for this. Things have been pretty hectic around here. I needed this!”

wpid-IMG_9742.jpg

“Super Cute!!! Thank You”

wpid-Screenshot_2014-01-27-09-09-48.png

“Amazing friends make my world go round. Thank You [Ashley]  for being you”

Let’s catch up for this last week and you can also see what the mystery deed was (I know it’s been killing you to know).

1/19/14: TELL YOUR PARENTS YOU LOVE THEM and appreciate them:
As easy as this one is, or seems, it was a little strange for me to just do it out of the blue over the phone. I mean I’ve gotten into the habit of saying I say I Love You frequently to my parents but for some reason to, what would seem like random, to tell them I appreciate them felt more….(gasp) vulnerable. I haven’t always been in a place of being comfortable sharing feelings with my parents while I was growing up so I’m learning it still has somewhat of a hold on me now. Also I think with this day and age and having texting and messaging and that sort of stuff, I think society has a harder time sharing their feelings face to face or voice to voice. I didn’t want to pass on this good deed so I still completed it, and as much as I wanted to do it over the phone (because my parents don’t live close enough for me to see them), I was feeling too vulnerable in the moment, so I did it through a text message. Both parents replied and I could tell were grateful to hear that from me.

1/20/14: MYSTERY DEED aka SEND A FRIEND A BELOVED BOOK from your shelf:
The reason I picked this as a mystery deed is because this is the type of deed I like to be a surprise. I didn’t want any friends to EXPECT anything and like the element of surprising someone and them receiving something unexpected. This particular deed, one of my friends was mentioning a book she thought she should read because it kept appearing in her path and it was a book I have. I had not read it yet and knowing that I wasn’t going to have time any time soon, I sent the book for her to read. She doesn’t check her mail frequently so I don’t think she’s seen it yet, but I’m sure after this post she’ll go home and check tonight 🙂

1/21/14: HUG YOUR CHILD for no reason at all:
This one is super easy because I hug my child all the time. He’s 5 so he’s constantly getting smothered in kisses and hugs from me. I thought this might be an interesting one for parents with older children because it might be something they don’t do as often, making it a pleasant surprise for their child. If you are a parent of an older child and you completed this deed, or want to complete it, share your experience in the comments below.

1/22/14: bake your favorite kind of cookies and SHARE:
This is a deed I did not get a chance to do this week. I had no time the previous night to bake cookies so my plan was to bake them on this night and share them with my co-workers the following day and when I was going to make them, I didn’t have any eggs. I literally haven’t even gone to the grocery store since. 😦 I’m going tonight though, so I’ll make sure I pick up some eggs.

1/23/14: MEDITATE for ten minutes:
I have to admit, this one I did not remember to do. I was going to do it at lunch but then had errands to run so decided to do it at bedtime and forgot. 😦

1/24/14: BUY A COFFEE for the person behind you in line:
This one was fun because I don’t drink coffee and I rarely end up in a coffee shop. So on this day I deliberately went to Starbucks just to carry out this deed. I did not order a coffee for myself, I instead bought some food so I could quickly slip out before the person behind me knew they were getting their coffee paid for. The funny thing is, there was a really long line when I went in but no one was coming in after me. I was laughing in my head thinking “of course this happens”. When I was paying for my food, two people walked in. I gave the cashier a $20 and as she was going to give me my $15 change I told her to keep $10 and pay for the next one or two coffees behind me. As I was walking out I heard her say, “Oh she’s paying for your drink”. I didn’t turn around I just kept walking. It was kind of awesome to feel like some sort of mysterious deed lady haha.

1/25/14: TELL A STRANGER HIS/HER CHILD IS BEAUTIFUL:
I had a lot of opportunity for this one this day because not only did I go to a child’s birthday party, but my son also had a basketball game. I told one of the mom’s at the birthday party that her daughter was beautiful. I’m sure she’s heard it before because her daughter was just so adorable, but as a parent I know it’s still feels nice when people say that.

1/26/14: BE HAPPY FOR SOMEONE and tell her.
I accidentally picked 8 deeds last week instead of 7 but being that I am late on this post it’s good that I had previously picked this for yesterday and it was already shared with everyone. I went to my fiance’s cousin’s girlfriends (you got that?) baby shower yesterday. It was so nice and beautiful. We are both pregnant and only 4 weeks apart from each other. It’s cool because the babies are cousins and will be close in age. By the end of the shower, I couldn’t remember if I had specifically told her I was happy for her so just in case, I wrote it again on her Facebook to let her know how excited and happy I am for both and I can’t wait to meet the little one.

So as January is coming to an end, I have officially completed 20 of 26 deeds that I have picked. Sometimes things happen or I won’t get the opportunity to do it on the specific day I was meaning to. For that, I want to at least try to have “make up” days before the end of that month. So this week I will be doubling up with new deeds as well as some that I have missed from the previous weeks.

The new deeds this week are:

1/27/14: SAY GOOD MORNING TO YOUR CO-WORKERS

1/28/14: ***MYSTERY DEED***

1/29/14: DO A LITTLE DANCE AND BE SILLY

1/30/14: LEAVE SOME HOMEMADE COOKIES AT YOUR NEIGHBORS DOOR

1/31/14: GIVE YOURSELF  A PEP TALK

2/1/14: LET ANOTHER CAR TAKE THAT PARKING SPOT, smile and wave

“Make Up Deeds”:
* Walk around your block and PICK UP TRASH”
*BE MINDFUL of saying “Please”, “Thank You”, and “You’re Welcome” (I halfway completed but wasn’t very mindful and could do better)
*WRITE A POSTCARD TO A LONG LOST FRIEND
*BE QUICK TO APOLOGIZE
*bake your favorite cookies and SHARE
*MEDITATE FOR TEN MINUTES

Can’t wait to see how this week goes and if you’ve been following along or would like to I would love to hear from you in the comments section below

Good Deed Sunday: 12/29/13

In my last post I mentioned to you about the new journal I am started at the New Year regarding completing “One Good Deed A Day”. I will be making a status update daily on my Facebook page (so don’t forget to click the link to your right to follow me on FB) with reflection about the deed from the day before and the deed I will be completing that day. On the blog I will be updating once a week instead. Every Sunday for the deeds for Sunday through Saturday in case any of you want to follow along. The journal can also be found at Barnes and Noble if anyone wants to grab one on their own and follow along or do it themselves.

Today will be the first post describing the deeds I will complete today. Although I would like to pick a deed everyday, to be successful at this, I know myself and I need to be a little more prepared for some of the deeds in the book to make sure I follow through. Not only that I wanted you to be able to follow along if you choose as well. I feel like some sense of excitement can be lost through this process or pre-picking, but I want to try and do a new good deed every day and this way will help me, at least for now. If later on I decide to just pick a random one each day I will start to update on here daily instead of weekly.

so DUN DUN DUN….. the deeds for the week:

Since the New Year starts on Wednesday I will only be listing Wed-Sat this week.

1/1/14: SMILE AT A STRANGER

1/2/14: BECOME AN ORGAN DONOR

1/3/14: ADD MONEY TO AN EXPIRED METER

1/4/14: TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU’RE GRATEFUL FOR

“Each one of these seemingly simple measures has the power to set off a chain reaction of kindness. Good deeds never go unnoticed. In fact, they tend to have a ripple effect. Your kind smile can compel someone to hold the door  for a stranger, motivating that stranger to reach out to an old friend, who decides to donate much needed funds to a charitable cause.”

I hope you start a long with me. It’ll be interesting how these will change our lives over the next year. Comment below if you are going to follow along with me. Would love to stay updated with you. And don’t forget to follow along daily through Facebook.
